Virtual Playground

Even though an amusement park or a traditional playground has a lot of tricks in their sleeves to ensure you a great and relaxing time, some times you want to forego the hassle of going from one ride to another. Also, a day is not enough to enjoy all the place has to offer. It is not hard to imagine the crowd going wild when the idea of virtual playground became an actuality. Gone are the days of seemingly endless lines by the time computer games kicked off.

When did the concept of personal computer games started? The very first computer game was launched in 1961 when two students of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Martin Graetz and Alan Kotok, along with an MIT staff, Steve Russell, created Spacewar! on a Programmed Data Processor-1 computer.

The game basically has two armed spaceships, namely the needle and the wedge, which have to take shots at one another and at the same time move around the scattered asteroids or something closely resembling a star.

The first batch of PC games usually falls under text adventures or interactive fiction where players control the game via special commands they communicate through the keyboard. In the middle of 1970s, computer games were starting to become all the rage. A number of gaming magazines, like Creative Computing and Computer Gaming World, egged users on presenting their own software to de developed as the next big thing in the world of PC games.

Simultaneous with the development in the computer industry, these games were continually changing to include other paraphernalias like the joystick and the mouse. The introduction of sound cards, and other types of software opened many possibilities to game developers. These add-ons had a hand in the games we are enjoying today such as Super Mario 64, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, and City of Villains. Indeed, PC games are already on the next level and users can’t wait to get their hands in these virtual playgrounds.
