My Favorite Game

If somebody asks you what your favorite game is, what will be your answer? If you really are addicted to all sorts of computer games, it is hard to pick just one. You may end up naming ten or more games. Computer games can de divided into these main categories: action, arcade, shooter, simulators, and strategy.

Iplayground.com defines each category so that the next time you want to go enter the virtual playground, you’ll know what’s what and may ultimately lead you to your favorite game.

Action

Boys will be boys. No matter what age they are in, majority of the male gender can’t resist some action. However, let’s not be stereotypical. You may be surprised at the number of female who prefers action games. This is the type of game where there are no gender issues. As long as you know how to play, you’re welcome. Check out The Legend of Zelda or Resident Evil if you fancy action games.

Arcade

A person can only play an arcade game as long as his character is alive and can still fight off the enemies or can still continue on with the race. As such, arcade games consist of short but many levels, with the next one more difficult than the previous. Car racing games are good examples of arcade games.

Shooter

As the name entails, shooter games involves the player shooting enemies using light guns, joysticks, or keyboard commands. This kind of game can be further categorized into first-person shooter, third-person shooter, rail shooter, and tactical shooter. It depends who does the shooting, whether it is a team play or one man versus the world. Some good shooter games are Halo, Revolution X, Star Fox, and SOCOM series

Simulators

Life simulation games make the player either live an artificial life or control it. It can be divided into biological simulation, pet-raising simulation, and social simulation. Biological simulation is more or less an educational package. The pet-raising simulation games are highly based on the pet-owner relationship. A case in point is the Tamagotchi. For games involving social interaction, you best go with social simulation games like The Sims.

Strategy

Computer games that require the player to have a strategy fall under strategy games, of course. In this category, the success of the player depends on how he carefully plans and how he will carry out the plan. Think of military tactics. Famous strategy games are Gunbound, StarCraft, and Master of Orion series.
